Overview

A large cultural event with a packed programme, changing light and no second chance at any moment. Shot, selected and graded solo, with a fast turnaround so the organisers could publish while the event was still current.

The Challenge

Live cultural events give you one take. The programme runs to its own schedule, lighting shifts from harsh daylight to stage wash within minutes, and the moments that matter most — a reaction, a performance peak — are over in a second. The brief was complete coverage: stage, crowd and candid, without a second shooter.

The Approach

01

Plan the run sheet before the day

Knowing the programme order meant knowing where to stand and when, rather than reacting to what had already happened.

02

Shoot for three different uses

Stage frames for press, crowd frames for social proof, candid frames for warmth. Each needs a different lens and a different position.

03

Handle mixed lighting deliberately

Daylight, indoor and stage lighting in one day means the grade has to unify the set rather than treating each frame separately.

04

Cut hard in selection

A tight edited set is more usable than a full dump of frames. Organisers publish what is ready, not what needs sorting.
