Strategy & Research

Know Exactly Who Buys, Why, and Where

Brand strategy, market and competitor research, and go-to-market planning for Singapore businesses — grounded in how your buyers actually behave.

There is no template here. Your buyers, your market and your competitive position are specific, and the research is built around them.

The Challenge

Most marketing fails at the strategy layer, not the execution layer. The ads were fine. The posts were fine. They were simply aimed at an assumed buyer who behaves differently from the real one. Firms rarely discover this, because a campaign that underperforms gets blamed on the channel and replaced with another channel aimed at the same wrong assumption.

Our Method

How We Build a Strategy & Research Plan

The same three steps run through every engagement. Applied to this service line, they look like this.

  1. 01

    Identify buyer behaviour

We map what your buyers actually do before purchasing — the searches, the comparisons, the people they ask — rather than what your team assumes they do.

  2. 02

Find why they buy, and where

Then the motivation behind the decision and the specific places it gets made. This is what tells us which channels deserve budget and which are a distraction.

  3. 03

Convert it into how they buy from you

Finally we turn that into positioning, messaging and a channel plan aimed at your buyer specifically — the document every later engagement executes against.

What We Deliver

Capabilities Under This Pillar

01.1

Brand Strategy

Defining who you are for, what you claim, and why anyone should believe it — written down so every later piece of work stays consistent.

  • Target audience definition and prioritisation
  • Value proposition and proof points
  • Positioning against named competitors
  • Messaging framework the whole team can use

01.2

Market & Competitor Research

A clear picture of the field you are actually competing in, and where the gaps sit.

  • Audience segmentation by behaviour, not just demographics
  • Customer journey mapping from trigger to decision
  • Consumer and client interviews
  • Competitive analysis of positioning, pricing signals and visibility

01.3

Go-To-Market Strategy

Launch planning for a new product, service or market — sequenced so the first ninety days build momentum rather than noise.

  • Launch sequencing and channel selection
  • Pricing and offer positioning input
  • Market-entry planning for new territories
  • Success measures agreed before launch, not after

For the Owner / Principal

A defensible answer to why marketing budget is going where it is going.

For the Sales Team

Messaging that matches what prospects actually ask, rather than what the brochure says.

For Finance

Channel spend justified by evidence before it is committed, not rationalised afterwards.

Our Approach

How We Deliver This Pillar

  1. 01

    Ask the people who know

Your salespeople usually know why deals are won and lost. That knowledge rarely reaches whoever writes the marketing.

  2. 02

    Look at behaviour, not opinion

Search demand, review patterns and competitor visibility describe what buyers do. Surveys describe what they say they do.

  3. 03

    Name the competitors

Generic category analysis is comfortable and useless. We benchmark you against the specific firms taking your enquiries.

  4. 04

    Write it down

A strategy that lives in someone's head is not a strategy. Every engagement ends in a document your team can execute from.

What You Actually Receive

Deliverables

Concrete outputs, not activity descriptions. Every item below is something you can open, keep and use.

  • Written buyer behaviour map — what they do, in what order, and where
  • Positioning statement and messaging framework document
  • Competitor analysis with named firms and visibility benchmarks
  • Audience segments with priority order and rationale
  • Channel recommendation with reasoning for each inclusion and exclusion
  • Ninety-day action plan, sequenced and owned

Engagement Shapes

How Strategy & Research Usually Gets Scoped

These are the shapes this work commonly takes — starting points for a conversation, not fixed packages. Your actual scope is built after the diagnostic and quoted in writing.

01

Diagnostic Research

When you need a clear read before committing to anything.

  • Competitor and search-position analysis
  • Review and reputation audit
  • 2–3 stakeholder interviews
  • Written prioritised findings

02

Full Strategy Build

When you are ready to build the plan everything else runs from.

  • Everything in Diagnostic Research
  • Customer interviews and journey mapping
  • Positioning and messaging framework
  • Channel plan with budget allocation logic

03

Ongoing Strategic Partner

When strategy needs to keep pace with a moving market.

  • Quarterly strategy review and revision
  • Competitor monitoring
  • New product or market GTM planning
  • Direct access between reviews

Fees are quoted in writing after the diagnostic and do not move unless the scope does. We do not publish rate cards because the right scope depends entirely on what the diagnostic finds.

What Happens When

A Typical Timeline

Indicative, and adjusted to your scope. You will have a dated plan before anything begins.

  1. 01

    Kickoff

    Week 1

Stakeholder interviews with the people who know where enquiries genuinely come from — usually not only the owner.

  2. 02

    Research

    Week 1–2

Competitor visibility analysis, search demand mapping, review benchmarking, and customer interviews where the engagement includes them.

  3. 03

    Synthesis

    Week 2–3

Findings turned into a buyer behaviour map, positioning and a channel recommendation with explicit reasoning.

  4. 04

    Presentation

    Week 3

We walk your team through it, argue the contentious parts, and revise. The document is yours whatever happens next.

Being Clear Upfront

What's Included — and What Isn't

Most disputes between an agency and a client come from an assumption nobody wrote down. This is us writing it down.

Always included

  • Primary research with your actual customers where scoped
  • Named competitor analysis, not generic category commentary
  • A written deliverable you keep regardless of what follows
  • Direct access to the person who did the work

Not included

  • Large-scale quantitative survey panels — we will refer you if you need statistical significance
  • Financial modelling or valuation work
  • Legal or regulatory advice on claims — your counsel signs those off
  • Execution, which sits under the other service lines

Common Questions

Before You Ask

We already know our customers. Do we need this?

Possibly not, and we will say so. The test is whether three people in your business would independently describe your primary buyer and their decision process the same way. When they would not — which is common — that gap is quietly costing you money in every campaign.

Can we skip straight to execution?

You can, and some clients do when the picture is already clear. We would rather run the diagnostic first, because paying us to execute against a wrong assumption is the most expensive version of this.

Do you interview our actual customers?

In the fuller scopes, yes — and it is consistently the most valuable part. Clients say things to a neutral third party they would never say to you directly, particularly about why they nearly went elsewhere.

What if the research says we should not spend on marketing?

Then that is what the report says. It has happened. Occasionally the honest finding is that the constraint is pricing, sales follow-up or capacity, and no amount of visibility fixes it.

How customised is this really?

Entirely. There is no template document with your name swapped in. The competitors are your competitors, the interviews are with your customers, and the channel plan reflects your market rather than a generic best practice list.
